getting closer...
*UPDATED update*
i'm listening to final mixes right now via the internet! beau is in portland and he is sending me mixes, and we are discussing them over google talk. (by the way, if you haven't downloaded google talk, you really really should.)
we are sending the songs to roger siebel (sae mastering) to get mastered. siebel's roster is pretty impressive and includes everything from screeching weasel and the queers to sunny day real estate and death cab for cutie.
after a lot of thought and discussion and asking around for advice, i have decided to start by releasing this album digitally only. i am still going to make a distributable format of the album -- probably a download card. more on that when i figure it out.
once i get the songs out into the world and see how they do, i will look into paying to press CDs. but right now it's just a matter of time and money, and since i am putting this out on my own dime, i need take baby steps. i have enough of my old band's CDs still lying around; i don't need to buy 1,000 more to add to the pile.
assuming we get these mixes done by friday, and mastered next week, i could have this ep finished and released by the first week of june! very exciting...
i have also been talking to beau about the idea of turning this "solo" project into a "team" effort, under an assumed name. yes, i write the songs, but beau contributes half of what makes the songs end up sounding the way they do, and i couldn't have created this sound without him. so even though we probably won't tour, and if these songs are ever performed live it will probably just be me and an ipod, i still think i like the idea of calling ourselves a duo. because that's what we are.
so we think we might call ourselves Gardening, Not Architecture.
what do *you* think?

March 25
im sitting in the studio right now getting rough mixes of the four songs that i recorded with the infamous beau sorenson*. im surprised by how much we were able to accomplish in just two ten-hour days. the songs turned out beautifully, although my voice is definitely out of shape. luckily i have beau to make everything "more better."
i plan on putting out an EP of these four songs. the working song titles are:
"the great unraveling"
"jabberwocky"
"if you only knew"
"nevermind"
we also tracked piano for a fifth, cover song; but i didnt have time to record vocals, so that will have to happen at a later date.
the release date for the EP will be sometime in the next two months... hopefully before june.
im super excited to finally get this music out of my head.
