Butler - Alex MacDonald aka Amac has aspirations of being a recording engineer.
For the immediate future, however, he enjoys writing, singing, and recording his own music.
The 2005 Eastside graduate will perform during the Drug Free Dekalb County fine arts showcase on the downtown stage Friday during the Dekalb County Free Fall Fair.
Most recently, Amac has been working with Da Midwest Clique, which includes Auburn-based entertainers "King Sizzle" and "DJ White Boy," who have their own record label, Burn Entertainment.
"I was doing my own thing, making my own music. We met and talked about collaborating. " Amac said. "(hip-hop's) not my favorite type of music, but i'm making it the best i can."
Amac doesn't want to fall into a stereotype. His music contains uplifting messeges without being preachy. One of his songs, "Shine, Child. Shine" encourages people to be positive, with the idea it will become contagious.
"A lot of hip-hop music promotes sex and drugs," Amac said. "That's not my style."
One of his biggest influences was in his family tree. Amac's grandfather, William Sego, was a country-and-western singer and songwriter. His song. "Almost Persuaded" was recorded by George Jones.
"I grew up seeing him share his music with everyone. It's been in my blood," Amac said. Other musical influences include Bob Dylan and Led Zepplin.
In the past two years, Amac figures he's written about 75 songs in different musical styles. One day, he wants to create a rock album.
Amac has already recorded an experimental rap-rock album, "Dangers of Selling the Mississippi" while producing and recording a self-titled album for Ruthless.
While Amac has performed small shows, this will be his first appearance as a solo artist. His 30-minute performance will include Nate Dance "ASAP" on backing vocals with Josh Spencer "NM" on drums.
"I want to do really well," he said. "I hope it impacts people."
Amac plans to attend The Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio, a school for recording engineering.
"I'm not the best singer or songwriter, but i think i can make people sound better," he said. "That's the avenue I want to pursue."
